On February 16th - 18th, 2012, the Magnetic Field on Depot Street will host the first annual Asheville Improvisational Music Festival (AIM) featuring some of Western North Carolina’s finest experimental musicians. The series will take place over three evenings and is a celebration of the exciting and experimental improvisational music being created in Asheville.

Festival organizer and bassist Jay Sanders explains, "Improvisation, while often thought of as an exclusively jazz art-form, is a documented and integral piece of any musical puzzle presented to the public. Simply put, Improvisation is not Jazz, Improvisation is Communication." He continues, "AIM was created to showcase that underneath the popular exterior of Asheville being an amazing music town, there also lies a level of world-class talent rarely seen in a city of this size."

The Magnetic Theatre provides an intimate setting allowing for the performances to be enjoyed in mostly acoustic form. The three night experience will include appearances from The E.Normus Trio with Jeff Sipe, Jonathan Scales Fourchestra, The Archrivals, Shane Perlowin Trio, Like Mind Trio, Spork! and The Page Brothers. Audiences can be assured that the collaborative spirit of the festival will carry over into highlighted solo performances and pairings. More artists are yet to be announced.

Tickets for the Asheville Improvisational Music Festival will go on sale on Tuesday, January 17th at 10 am. Limited three-day passes to the event are $45 and single show tickets are $18 ($20 day of show). To purchase tickets, and for more information, please visit: http://www.themagneticfield.com
